20kA for 3 sec ?

    A  question,
    I was asked about the 20kA for 3 sec "what is 25kA for 3 second or 20kA for 1 scond mean?" Anyone can tell me about this?

    20000 Ampere for 3 seconds breaker opens
    25000 Ampere for 3 seconds breaker opens
    20000 Ampere for 1 second breaker opens

    Sounds like the Short Time Current Carrying Capability or how much fault current the gear is rated to handle for 3 seconds.

    The equipment can stand current of 20 KA or 25 KA for 1 or 3 seconds during failure.
